Ben Stein, the actor best known for playing a monotone teacher in the 80s hit "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", will be in Tallahassee tomorrow morning to tout his controversial evolution documentary and support legislation proposed by Brandon Sen. Ronda Storms and Umatilla Rep. Alan Hays.

The Republicans are sponsoring identical bills in their respective chambers that would make clear teachers and students have the right to question Darwin's evolution theory in public classrooms. The proposals come less than a month after the State Board of Education voted that teachers must teach evolution and natural selection to middle and high schoolers.

"We can test on evolution," said Storms, a former high school English teacher. "But the students, after having heard all the evidence, should be able to arrive at their own conclusions. To do that, they have to have all the facts. Under this bill, if you have a teacher who is pro-evolution and every student is intelligent design ... that teacher is safe to teach that as a theory."

Stein's documentary, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, has been dubbed by critics as advancing the agenda of those who want to push religious curriculum into public classrooms. Hays has set up a screening of the film Wednesday night for interested lawmakers.
