UF creates nation's first P.R. endowed chair

UF will use a $2-million foundation grant to create the United States' first endowed chair in public relations, and the focus will be on communications that advance the causes of nonprofit and public organizations.

The grant from the foundation chaired by 1961 UF alumnus Frank Karel's wife Betsy is eligible for a state match, making it worth $4-million. The money will establish the Frank Karel Chair in Public Interest Communications, housed in UF's college of journalism and communications.
