FSU's savvy politicos a bonus in tight times

FSU, alma mater to so many lawmakers, has seen its state funding shrink by more than $30-million. And like other agencies, its workers aren't getting government raises.

But the smart saving pushed by former House Speaker TK Wetherell (FSU Prez) and former state budget director Robert Bradley (now an FSU prof and VP) has left FSU with a rainy day fund of tens of millions that is allowing FSU to invest selectively in superstar hiring and at-risk students.

The latest proposed use of that money might even involve subsidies to help lower-earning FSU workers pay for rising living costs. Read more here.
