FILL IN THE BLANKS: If Gov. Crist wants voters to support Amendment 5, he needs to provide details on how the state would replace the local property taxes that currently support Florida's public schools, the Times editorializes. It's distrust among Florida educators that makes the proposal a hard sell, the Florida Times-Union reports.
ENDORSEMENTS: The Times editorial department recommends voters support incumbents Susan Valdes and Carol Kurdell for Hillsborough School Board.
WE'RE NOT CLOSING ANY SCHOOLS: Hillsborough superintendent MaryEllen Elia writes an op-ed piece in the Tampa Tribune clarifying what's going on with the schools the state has put on its "intervene" list.
SECOND CHANCE: A growing number of students are transferring into Florida Gulf Coast University, the Fort Myers News-Press reports.
MAYBE HE'LL JUST QUIT: Miami-Dade superintendent Rudy Crew could decide within weeks whether to leave the district, where the School Board only narrowly supported keeping him on the job, the Miami Herald reports.
ANOTHER TAX? Manatee school officials weigh the option of asking voters to approve an additional 1-mill in local property taxes to offset revenue decreases from the state, the Herald-Tribune reports. Other districts are considering similar actions.
TURN OUT THE LIGHTS: The party soon could be over at UF. The university has released a new student code of conduct that would ban keg parties, drinking games and more on campus, the Gainesville Sun reports.
