USF students protest curtailed drinking hours
A USF student has launched a Facebook petition protesting president Judy Genshaft's Sept. 2 decision to ban alcohol sales at an on-campus restaurant during lunch and afternoon hours, the USF Oracle reports today.
The petition group started by senior business major and former Student Government staffer James Callihan had more than 1,850 members as of this morning.
When Beef 'O' Brady's opened in the new Marshall Student Center the week before fall classes began, patrons could purchase beer and wine beginning at 11 a.m. Genshaft curtailed the hours to after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends two weeks later in keeping with the campus' drug- and alcohol-free workplace policy.
The 1993 policy states that no student or employee of USF is allowed to report to class or work under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
A USF spokesman said Genshaft is not likely to change her mind, despite the petition.
