Why are their checks smaller?

Openwallet
Pasco school employees have not been shy about their demand to get more money this year.

They've protested against a freeze in their pay, and requested a raise in addition to their contracted annual step increase.

So it comes as no surprise that dozens of workers inundated the district office when they noticed that their latest paychecks were a little smaller than the ones before. Their single question: Why?

The answer, it turns out, was the United School Employees of Pasco itself. Dues went up, and the district was simply collecting for the employees' bargaining agent. See CFO Olga Swinson's memo to employees, sent late Thursday, here.
