Affordable housing for teachers

NOVEMBER 14, 2008

The Pinellas County School Board generated headlines this week with a proposal to provide affordable housing for some of its teachers. And Pinellas is hardly alone.

A bevy of other Florida districts have floated similar plans in the past year, including Pasco, Broward and Orange. New York City's program targets harder-to-find teachers (math, science, special ed) in high-needs schools.

Is that the way to go?
