With money - and the relative lack of it - dominating Florida politics, House Speaker Ray Sansom not surprisingly has split up the responsibility for education finances and policy for the coming legislative session.

The new set-up, approved today, establishes an Appropriations Council for Education and Economic Development with four standing committees, and an Education Policy Council with three standing committees. The organizing legislation details the breakdown on pages 21 and 22.

Still no word on who will run the councils and committees, but rumor has it that Rep. Anitere Flores of Miami -- already tabbed to serve as deputy majority leader -- is a likely candidate to run the appropriations council. The names Marti Coley and John Legg frequently pop us as possible leaders, too. We'll let you know as we hear more details.
