It's by no means a complete accounting, but a new analysis gives the most detailed picture yet of how much money may be headed to Tampa Bay (and to other school districts around Florida) from the $787 billion federal stimulus package that President Obama is expected to sign tomorrow.

The Congressional Research Service analysis, completed Friday and now posted on the Florida School Boards Association web site, shows how much each district is estimated to get from two pots of money in the package – one related to funding for low-income schools, and one for special education students.

From those two pots, Hillsborough is expected to get $83 million; Pinellas, $50.8 million; Pasco, $22.5 million; and Hernando, $8 million.

The analysis does not include several other pots of education money, including one for "school improvement."

It also does not include money from the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund,
which will be used to help state and local governments balance budgets,
avoid layoffs and prevent cuts to key programs. Florida's share of the
stabilization fund is $2.7 billion. And according to this analysis by the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities, Florida schools are estimated to get $2.2 billion of that.

This earlier NEA breakdown
shows Florida schools getting about $1.5 billion from the stimulus, not
counting money from the stabilization fund (or $936 million in Pell
grants). Altogether, according to the office of Gov. Crist, Florida schools will get about $3.6 billion over two years.
