What the best teachers do, according to Jeb and UF
Want to know how the best teachers ramp up student achievement in their classrooms? Jeb Bush's Foundation for Excellence in Education and the University of Florida's Lastinger Center for Learning think they can tell you with this new interactive guide .
The "Secrets of Successful Teaching," released today, is based on what dozens of teachers told UF researchers last year after the foundation named them the best teachers in Florida according to FCAT scores. (Yes, that was and is controversial.)
The researchers organized the responses into 14 "secrets," such as Secret No. 4, "celebrate progress but keep raising the bar," and Secret No. 14, "prepare for formal testing, but focus on learning for life." They also listed dozens of related research papers.
For all of those wanting Jeb to go away, today's announcement buried this nugget: "In come years, the Foundation will expand the model developed in Florida to states across the nation to reward hundreds more excellent teachers and replicate their successful strategies in every American classroom."
