Florida leads the nation in associate degrees awarded
For the seventh straight year, Florida's community college system has issued more associate degrees -- 49,354 -- than any other place in the United States, with Broward College leading the way among two-year institutions and Miami-Dade College at the top of the four-year schools.
The system also led the way in the number of degrees issued to minorities and the number of degrees issued in health professions, nursing, liberal arts and humanities, according to the latest issue of Community College Week.
Said education commissioner Eric J. Smith: “Florida’s colleges are helping to prepare our workforce for the demands of today’s economy, and it’s no surprise they continue to top national charts. I could not be more proud of a state college system that works so cohesively to better the lives of the students that pass through its doors, and I look forward to maintaining the commitment to access again next year.”
