Pasco High petitions for its assistant principal

Data One of the casualties in Pasco schools superintendent Heather Fiorentino's administrative appointments is longtime Pasco High assistant principal Robin Futch (left).

Fiorentino decided not to keep Futch in the job, suggesting in e-mails that Futch -- like other retirees hoping to stay on longer -- needed to move on. Futch thought she had a deal to return after she agreed to take a pay cut, reapplied for the job and beat out the competition.

Now some in her Dade City community are not taking the decision easily.

They're signing onto an online petition, not so much in the hope of getting the job -- Futch's daughter Valerie writes in the description that "It seems there is no chance that she will get her job back" -- but more with the goal of exposing the way Fiorentino does business.

"I want a public record of the current work practices of the District," Valerie Futch writes. "I
am devastated that she is being forced out of her job and hope that you
will voice your concern over this decision."

When we last looked, the petition was approaching 100 signatures, including colleagues, students, parents and former students. The School Board is scheduled to take up the reappointment list on Tuesday. We expect some fireworks, and this might be one of the sparks. (Ray Gadd, too.)
