Go abroad, young man, go abroad
The Institute of International Education has rated colleges and universities based on the study abroad opportunities they offer to students, and a handful of Florida schools have ranked high.
Among research universities offering doctoral degrees, the University of Florida logged in at No. 12 with 2,039 students in overseas programs. Florida State University came in at No. 16, with 1,898 students abroad.
Among master's degree institutions, the University of North Florida was the state's only entry at No. 20, with 518 students overseas.
Among bachelor's degree colleges and universities, Eckerd College ranked 10th, with 410 students studying abroad.
Eckerd officials bragged on the rating, which they noted had their college up five spots from the previous year: "Eckerd College has a strong tradition of study abroad, which now involves over 68% of the student body," president Dr. Donald R. Eastman III said in a news release. "Providing our students with an international dimension and perspective helps to make them more competitive in this global marketplace."
