Dunedin High principal abruptly announces retirement
Dunedin High principal Paul Summa is calling it quits. Below is the e-mail he sent to staffers Tuesday night. The recent allegation he's referring to is here.
This e-mail is difficult to write, but the decision I have made has a direct impact on Dunedin High School and our school community. And because of that, you need to be aware of that decision. I plan to retire by the end of July in light of recent allegations (see attachment).
Last summer allegations were made against me that I had given a grade to a student in order for the student to graduate. This investigation took weeks and wreaked havoc on my physical and emotional health and was not resolved until sometime late August early September. A number of teachers and staff members were called by OPS to give any information that they might have to support the allegation. The finding was inconclusive but it split the DHS administrative team in half. I will not put myself or the staff through that type of investigation again.
It has been a privilege and an honor to be the principal of Dunedin High School. I wish the school, staff and community all the best as you move forward through some very tough economic times.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Sincerely,
Paul F. Summa
Principal
