BT Washington Elementary gets new principal

The first of Hillsborough's Elevate schools to change leaders will be Booker T. Washington Elementary just west of Ybor City.

Jaime Gerding, 40, becomes that school's principal on March 21, replacing Anthony Montoto. Gerding, a district employee since 1997, is now the principal of Philip Shore Elementary, a magnet that specializes in the performing arts. It's not clear where Montoto, the subject of this Tampa Bay Times report in 2014, will work next.

The district is working on ambitious plans for seven elementary and middle schools that have struggled in recent years with academics, behavior or both. The others are Edison, Potter and Miles elementary; Sulphur Springs K-8; McLane and Sligh Middle.

According to a recent administrative bulletin, the district has also been interviewing principal candidates at Potter.

The district also named Diane Sanchez-Aliakbarian as principal of Crestwood Elementary to replace Rosalind Daigneault, who is retiring. Sanchez-Aliakbarian, who joined the district in 2001 as a teacher at Oak Grove Elementary School, is now an assistant principal at Mendenhall Elementary.
