Charter school closes in east Hillsborough
A charter school in Seffner that opened two years ago to meet the needs of East Hillsborough's migrant children has closed its doors.
W.E. Phillips notified the Hillsborough County school district that because of low enrollment, it chose to close rather than risk a shaky 2014-2015 school year.
The school had only 44 students, according to the district. The School Board will vote Tuesday to terminate the contract.
"This will allow our students to relocate to another school of their choice," Elizabeth Chavez, chairwoman of W.E. Phillips wrote in a letter to the district's charter office.
As with any charter school closing, the district is working to help the students relocate.
