Churches in the public schools
In response to Tampa Bay Times reports about First Priority Tampa Bay and Idlewild Baptist Church, officials of the Hillsborough County Public Schools have been reviewing their relationships with area churches, to make sure they are legal and appropriate.
It encompasses a multitude of congregations of all sizes that provide mentors, donate space for special events, hand out book bags, plant trees and donate everything from food that gets a family through the weekend to hand sanitizer for a teacher to use in the classroom.
Some list cash donations; others perform services as specific as teaching staff how to repair computers or providing underwear and socks for children who need them.
Conversations are ongoing with critics who fear some of the relationships cross constutitonal lines.
