256 Tampa Bay schools get state checks

This year’s list of schools receiving school recognition money is out. Hundreds of schools statewide are splitting $147-million, including 128 in Hillsborough, 76 in Pinellas, 40 in Pasco and 12 in Hernando.

The money is annually awarded to schools that improve a letter grade or maintain an A grade, based on FCAT scores. Budget cuts this year reduced the per-student amount from $100 to $85.
