Administration changes in Pinellas

5

January

Two significant administrative changes on tap in Pinellas: Superintendent Julie Janssen is recommending that Bill Lawrence, now the director of advanced studies and academic excellence, become the new associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction; and that Rita Vasquez, who became the district’s chief turnaround officer in September, become the new assistant superintendent for region 4.

If the school board approves next week, Lawrence will replace Cathy Fleeger, who is retiring this month. His salary will rise from $70,400 to $93,278. The district plans to post his previous position.

Vasquez will replace Barbara Thornton. Her salary of $86,368 will not change. According to district spokewoman Andrea Zahn, the district is not planning to immediately post Vasquez’s previous position. For the time being, she will continue to oversee the four high schools under state oversight.
