AFL-CIO endorses Rene Flowers for Pinellas school board
Rene Flowers, a candidate for the Pinellas County School Board, has received the endorsement of the AFL-CIO West Central Florida Labor Unions, her campaign announced late Wednesday.
A statement from the labor unions said:
“We were selective in the persons we chose to endorse. We endorsed candidates who have a history of working towards solutions that are fair and who acknowledge and understand the need for job growth and the working class”.
Flowers is running for the District 7 seat held by Glenton Gilzean, who was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott after Board member Lew Williams died. Other contenders for the seat include Keisha Bell, Cassandra Jackson and Corey Givens Jr.
Flowers released this statement about the endorsement:
“Working class Americans are the crux of our nation. Jobs in the area of plumbing, iron work, carpenters, machinist, auto mechanics, and technology specific jobs are in great demand. My support of the expansion of Career Academies will give our students the opportunity to learn a wonderful trade while paving the way for future employment in a field that will be in demand, will pay living wages, and prove to be a career that they will enjoy."
