And the nominees for Hernando teacher of the year are...

 The Hernando County School District Teacher of the Year will be announced Jan. 25 at a dinner hosted by the Hernando County Education Foundation.

The past two Hernando teachers of the year have both come from Weeki Wachee High School, which is now in its third year. Both winners were English teachers.

Here are the names of the 23 teachers selected as teachers of the year from their respective schools:

Sandy Capel, 32, kindergarten teacher at Brooksville Elementary.

Bethann Brooks, 48, 10-12th-grade health science teacher at Central High School

Leonette Ehlenbeck, K-5 STEM lab teacher at Challenger K-8 School

Katie Sessa, 26, fourth-grade teacher at Chocachatti Elementary

Leila Pinkava, 62, third-grade teacher at Deltona Elementary

Karen E. Derf, 41, sixth-grade language arts teacher and 6-8th grade media lit teacher at Parrott Middle School

Melissa Parker, 26, music specialist for K-5 at Eastside Elementary

Kimberly Kessler, sixth-12th-grade exceptional student education inclusion teacher at Endeavor Academy

Magen Schlechter, 29, social studies teacher at Fox Chapel Middle School

Roseann Barile, 29, 10-12th-grade math teacher at F.W. Springstead High.

Noreen Shaukat, 35, ninth-12th-grade science teacher at Hernando High

Dana Natale, fourth-grade teacher at J.D. Floyd K-8

Victoria Jasztal, 30, fourth-grade teacher at Moton Elementary

Ian Wald, 25, digital video production teacher at Nature Coast Technical High

Jacqueline Cross, 29, sixth-grade science teacher at Powell Middle

Susan Lake , 28, first-grade teacher at Spring Hill Elementary

Tandra Lamia, 41, first-grade teacher at Suncoast Elementary

Morgan Burburan, 34, director of choirs and musical theatre at Weeki Wachee High

Rob Bradley, 55, eighth-grade pre-algebra and algebra I at West Hernando Middle

Melissa Tomlinson, 41, fourth-grade single gender teacher at Westside Elementary

Bobbi Fremer, 37, first-grade inclusion teacher at Winding Waters K-8
