And Pasco's biggest school is ...
Believe it or not, more Pasco County students are homeschooled than attend any single public school in the district.
As of late Monday, the homeschool count was 2,036, just slightly ahead of Mitchell High's 2,027 students. (Mitchell, of course, was supposed to become one of Pasco's smaller high schools this year, but that's not happening.)
Closing in on the top is Wiregrass Ranch High, which opened in Wesley Chapel just three years ago. It officially had 1,998 students as of Monday night. But principal Ray Bonti tells the Gradebook that the school has enough registrations scheduled to push the enrollment to 2,040 before the end of the week.
"We have become the largest high school in Pasco County," Bonti said. "It's a testament to all our teachers and staff. People want to be here."
And Wiregrass Ranch is likely to keep booming. Just take a look at the numbers at John Long Middle, which sits right next door and feeds Wiregrass Ranch. At 1,680 students, Long Middle is larger than seven of the district's 12 high schools.
Also of note, Oakstead Elementary is sitting at 1,068 students, more than 10 of Pasco's 15 middle schools. Whew.
Where to go for some space? Try Quail Hollow Elementary (366 students), Crews Lake Middle (684 students), or Anclote High (942 students). See the full list of schools for more details.
