Education news and notes from Tampa Bay and Florida

Are students being placed in virtual classes against their will?

18

January

As the New York Times reported today, some students in Miami-Dade County say they were placed in virtual education classes this year simply to meet Florida's class-size amendment.

The problem? No one told them they'd be in an "e-learning lab" with a teacher in -- well, it wasn't quite clear where the teacher was sitting, but it wasn't in Miami.

This got us wondering: has anyone in the Tampa Bay area gotten assigned to a virtual class that they didn't choose? Please let us know. (If you'd prefer, you can contact us offline at 813-226-3400 or tmarshall@sptimes.com.)
