Arne Duncan to headline Jeb Bush education conference

Strange bedfellows? Peas in a pod? Whatever you want to call it, here's more proof that when it comes to education reform, President Obama and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush aren't that far apart: Bush's Foundation for Excellence in Education announced today that U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will give the keynote address at Bush's education summit in Washington D.C. on Dec. 1.

"Secretary Duncan is advancing education reform across the nation," Bush said in a written statement. "Working together, I am confident we can improve the quality of education to better prepare students for success in college and careers in the 21st century."

Said Duncan in the same press release: "We recognize that the federal role is to support state and local efforts to improve education rather than dictate solutions from Washington. Overhauling the nation's public education system, including adjusting No Child Left Behind this year, is a 'golden opportunity' to improve the quality of life for everyday Americans. Doing that work together for our nations' children is the only way we can effectively address this immediate problem and give every child the education they need and deserve."
