Brooksville Elementary kids lead national reading challenge

7

September

pac_summer061808_27583c.jpgStudents at Brooksville Elementary School sure did take Florida's Just Read! mantra seriously this summer.

They entered Scholastic's summer challenge to log in the most minutes of reading, and beat out all other schools in the country.

Can you say 3,176,409 minutes? That's nearly 713,000 minutes more than the next closest school, which also was in Florida (Beacon Cove Intermediate in Jupiter).

Seven of the challenge's top 20 schools are in the Sunshine State. Was it just too hot to go out and play this summer? Maybe the kids have some suggestions for Florida's Literacy League, which is looking for suggestions of books written by Florida authors for a new elementary school list.
