Can Utah succeed where Florida failed?
Utah lawmakers looked closely at Florida's school voucher program, and saw the Democrat-dominated Florida Supreme Court drop-kick the idea as unconstitutional. They shrugged and looked to successful programs instead. Utah House Bill 148 now is moving ahead with steam - it passed the House 38-37 over the weekend - and Florida's voucher proponents now can only watch with envy as Utah aims to be the model that Florida wanted to be. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that voucher opponents are shaking their heads and saying the state will rue the day vouchers came to pass. Supporters, meanwhile, are just tickled.
