Castor offers financial aid workshops

TAMPA -- Need help filling out those daunting financial aid forms for college?

Rep. Kathy Castor can help. This Saturday, the Tampa Democrat will offer two, free workshops from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dale Mabry Campus of Hillsborough Community College in Tampa and the Enoch Davis Center in St. Petersburg.

Financial aid experts will be on hand to help with FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid, which all students must submit to qualify for Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, and other federal assistance. Families can also get help in determining eligibility for the Child Tax Credit and filing federal tax forms.

Those planning to attend should bring a 2009 IRS 1040 tax return and W-2 statements, and as many of the following documents as possible:

• Social Security number
• Records for untaxed income for 2009, such as Social Security, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), welfare or veterans’ benefits
• 2009 bank statements
• Your driver’s license or alien registration card
• Any 2009 business or investment mortgage information
• Business, farm, stock, bond or other investment records
