CC's have a permanent leader



Dr. Will Holcombe, interim chancellor for Florida's 28 community colleges since October, will assume the post full-time. Education commissioner Eric Smith announced the appointment this morning.

“Dr. Holcombe has long been an advocate for a seamless education system that not only produces successful students, but also a skilled workforce," Smith said. " Florida is fortunate to have such a well-respected and seasoned leader at the helm of our nationally-recognized community college system.”

A former U.S. Marine Corps Captain, Holcombe began his teaching career at Ford Junior High School in Brook Park , Ohio.  He later joined Florida 's Community College System, serving as an English professor at Santa Fe Community College and Broward Community College.

Holcombe served as President of Broward Community College from January 1987 to February 2004; and was interim president from November 2006 to July 2007.  He has also served as Vice President of Brevard Community College, provost and academic dean for Broward Community College 's Central Campus and assistant to the President for Broward Community College .
