As qualifying closed on Friday, 12 candidates were in the pool for Hillsborough County School Board.
Incumbents are being challenged in Districts 1, 3 and 5. In at-large District 7, Carol Kurdell has five -- count 'em -- five opponents, including a bus driver who's already gotten in trouble for campaigning on the job, a conservative activist who wants an Islamic organization banned from the schools, and an engineer who was tossed out of a recent board meeting for talking politics at the podium. Candy Olson, shown right, is just fine for the next two years.
