Commissioner Smith: Pearson was 'most appropriate vendor'

From an op-ed by Education Comissioner Eric J. Smith in yesterday's St. Augustine Record:

Lastly, I believe that the Record's comments related to the selection of Pearson as the state's new testing vendor missed the mark. The procurement process used to choose a new testing contractor was grounded in integrity and the Department went above and beyond to ensure the most appropriate vendor was chosen. In fact, three times the number of evaluators required were used in the selection process, four of whom represented outside stakeholders, and each of them had the background to ensure a thorough and accurate review of the proposals. Based on the high integrity of this evaluation and the fact that Pearson's proposal received a higher technical score at a much lower cost than the other bidder, I have no doubt the most appropriate vendor was awarded the contract.
