Community group likes new discipline plan in Pinellas
More than 300 members of the faith-based community group FAST (Faith & Action for Strength Together) are expected to applaud Pinellas district officials tonight for adopting a district-wide discipline plan.
The plan is tied to state mandates for Response to Intervention. It combines elements of two discipline programs, Florida Positive Behavior Supports and Foundations/CHAMPS. And it's a big part of the new approach the district has promised to take with the disciplining of black students (you can read a little more about it on pages 3-4 here.)
FAST has been pushing for a consistent, district-wide plan for several years. In October, hundreds of its members urged district officials to agree to more and better training for discipline programs.
The district is ramping up training this summer.
