Count her out
Heather Fiorentino was humbled and honored when her name became one of the first to circulate as a possible replacement to outgoing Florida Education Commissioner John Winn. But that was just talk, says the Pasco County superintendent, who also served in the state Legislature. She has no intention of applying for the job. "I am very happy where I am," Fiorentino told the Gradebook today, joining former Leon County superintendent Bill Montford in taking her name out contention. "I have a vision here in Pasco that I plan on working forward on."
Fiorentino, an opponent of the state's A-Plus plan, did not completely reject the notion of going to work for the Department of Education out of hand, though. If Gov. Charlie Crist were to ask her to step up for the children of Florida, she said, "I would not turn my back on the governor."
