Counting on volunteers in Pasco schools
The vast majority of Pasco County schools have received awards from the state for volunteer involvement.
Seventy of the district's 79 schools (charters not included) earned Gold School awards for, among other things, having twice the number of volunteer hours contributed as the number of students attending.
Four high schools and one middle school additionally got Silver School awards for exemplary student volunteerism.
With layoffs looming, one can only hope that this doesn't become a budget strategy. Congrats to those that won the accolades, and good luck making it next year to the few that didn't.
