Did we mention that Gerard Robinson is black?
Gerard Robinson's skin color seemed pretty obvious just by looking at him. More interesting, we thought, were his ideas and his experiences.
Plus, having an African-American commissioner of education is nothing new for Florida. Doug Jamerson, a St. Petersburg Democrat, was Florida's education commissioner back in 1994. Gov. Lawton Chiles named Jamerson to the post after Betty Castor resigned. [Photo of Jamerson and Chiles from Florida Legislative Research Center and Museum]
Thanks to BET for its headline, "Black man to lead Florida's education department." At least its story focused on Robinson's ideas along with his color.
For more on Robinson's thoughts, visit the Gradebook at noon on Saturday for an interview.
