District will survey Thurgood parents again on busing, start times

As the school board gets set to decide the fate of busing and start times at Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School, the district is sending another survey to Thurgood parents today.

According to the latest Friday Update newsletter to board members, the district will send the following text home with students:

• Fact: In order to provide transportation for students to attend Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School next year (2011-2012) the school start time has to be changed to 9:30.
• Question: Would you provide transportation for your child to attend Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School next year (2011-2012) in order for the school start time to stay the same as the current time (7:20-2:05)?

The surveys must be turned in by the end of the day Tuesday. The board will be voting on budget cuts Thursday.

As this weekend's story pointed out, some parents at the school are clearly not happy with the change in the start times, while others are saying they can live with it because they need the busing. The story also noted some parents said they never received a copy of the first survey, which was emailed Feb. 13, and others found the questions awkwardly worded.
