DOE: Tampa Bay districts could get $49 million in Race to the Top money
The four Tampa Bay area school districts could together get as much as $49.5 million if Florida wins a share of the federal Race to the Top money, says the state Department of Education. The DOE sent a memo to superintendents across the state Friday that spells out the dollar figures, district by district, based on the possibility that the state could be awarded $175 million to $350 million.
The note comes as the DOE is trying to shore up support from districts and other players in order to strengthen its RTTT application, which is due next month. Here is the breakdown for our districts:
Hernando: $1.1 to $2.2 million
Hillsborough: $12.2 to $24.4 million
Pasco: $4.1 to $8.2 million
Pinellas: $7.4 to $14.8 million
