Downtown Tampa school will start early and close for convention, subject to school board vote
As expected, the Hillsborough County School Board on Thursday will vote on a calendar that alters the start date of the Rampello K-8 Downtown Partnership School because of the upcoming Republican National Convention.
Classes for Rampello students would begin on Tuesday, Aug. 14 and the school would be closed from Aug. 27 - 31. For the rest of the Hillsborough district, school would begin on Aug. 21.
The proposed calendar gives students a week off for Thanksgiving, as in recent years. Unlike last year's calendar, which brought students back from winter break on Jan. 2, this year's schedule has them returning on Jan. 7. The second-semester grading period ends Jan. 18.
Good Friday, March 29, is referred to as a "non-student day."
But Feb. 8 and March 4 are clearly labelled as Florida State Fair and Strawberry Festival days. West Hillsborough kids will have the first day off; for east Hillbsorough, it's the second.
The board will meet at 9 a.m.
