East Pasco school zones up for final approval tonight
East Pasco County parents have one last chance to express their pleasure or concerns with proposed new attendance zones for the middle and high schools in their part of the county. (See the maps here.)
The School Board is slated to take final action on the boundaries at a 6 p.m. meeting tonight. Most of the changes are intended to ease crowding at John Long Middle and Wiregrass Ranch High schools, which have hundreds more students than permanent seats. Many of the students being rezoned would be transferred to nearby Weightman Middle and Wesley Chapel High schools.
Parents from the Seven Oaks subdivision raised the red flag early in the process, when they thought their homes would be rezoned. But they stepped back after learning they would not be affected, and since then there has been only a smattering of complaint. Planning director Chris Williams said he has not changed the proposals, which the board gave initial approval to in December.
