Education races shape up for August ballot

The filing deadline to qualify for the Aug. 14 ballot passed at noon, setting up some heated election battles while giving some free passes to reelection.

Those winning for lack of competition are Pinellas School Board incumbents Robin Wikle and Carol Cook, and Pasco School Board incumbent Alison Crumbley.

The area incumbent facing the biggest challenge is longtime Hillsborough School Board member Carol Kurdell, who faces five opponents for her at-large seat. Just one local School Board seat, Hernando's District 4, has no incumbent. Four candidates will face off for that position.
