Enrollment down slightly in Pinellas County public schools
Enrollment is down slightly this year in Pinellas County's public schools, according to a 10-day count from the district.
The school district enrolled 101,494 students in kindergarten through 12th grade this year, compared to 101,921 last year. That's 427 fewer students, or less than half a percentage point.
Some individual grades grew, while others declined.
More students enrolled in kindergarten and first grade this year, for example, than last year. In kindergarten, there were 7,871 students this year, or 298 more than last year. In first grade, there were 7,797 students this year, or 138 more than last year.
The grades with the biggest declines were fourth, ninth and 11th, each with 2.8 percent fewer students.
