Florida K-12 chancellor Frances Haithcock sent the word to superintendents late Friday: Districts' failure to meet all adequate yearly progress standards under the federal No Child Left Behind Act will cost them.

The $7.1 million in total penalties will be removed from districts' Title I administrative funds and must be put directly toward fixing the areas where they did not make AYP. Districts must document their plans by Nov. 5.

Locally, the amounts are:

• Hernando, $49,854
• Hillsborough, $531,556
• Pasco, $175,800
• Pinellas, $287,735
