FAMU law dean to be confirmed at 250K a year
FAMU's board of trustees meets tomorrow at the struggling FAMU College of Law in Orlando, and they're expected to confirm LeRoy Pernell to lead the college after years of instability and interim leadership.
The two-year contract, reviewed by the Times this morning, shows Pernell will get $250,000 a year starting Jan. 2, 2008. If his post isn't renewed beyond that, Pernell would be able to remain at the law school as a tenured professor earning the median nine-month salary of a FAMU full professor, plus $30,000.
Pernell, dean of the Northern Illinois University law school since 1997, wrote to FAMU president James Ammons last month to accept the job offer. "I look forward to joining the FAMU family and in working to truly achieve 'Excellence with Caring.' "
