The FCAT agenda
OK. So this panel of superintendents, testing experts and a couple of critics for good measure is getting together with DOE bigwigs next week in Tampa to talk FCAT. What's on the plate? Will they hit any big issues, or just make small talk? Deputy Commissioner Jay Pfeiffer has sent out the topics for discussion, and the list looks like this: school grades, AYP calculations for 2007, the Merit Award Program (that's performance pay for teachers), and the hiring of outside "technical reviewers" to audit the FCAT. At the end of the day, the group aims to have proposed solutions and recommended actions for each item. You can be sure it won't take long for the news to filter to school leaders from around the state - the meeting is being held at the same place where the Florida School Boards Association is having its annual conference.
