FDOE: Florida education system getting a bad rap
The Florida Department of Education needs to do a better job highlighting Florida’s “staggering” education successes and combating misinformation, says the department’s communications plan, which was on the Board of Education agenda this week.
“Even with Florida’s climbing student achievement and nationally recognized reform efforts, constant misrepresentations of Florida’s educational successes remain,” the plan says.
As proof of those successes, it lists statistics from Advanced Placement exams, the National Assessment of Educational Progress and the FCAT. (No mention of graduation rates.)
The plan’s goal: “Position Florida’s education system and the Florida Department of Education as the premiere administrative education entity in the country.”
Among the strategies to get there: “Develop and strengthen relationships with top education bloggers and online communities.”
