Federal survey: Girls fight ... a lot
More than one in four girls ages 12 to 17 engaged in violent behavior in the last year, and nearly one in five said they got into a serious fight at school or work, according to this recent federal survey. The numbers were highest among black girls, with 38 percent saying they had engaged in violent behavior, compared to 29 percent of Hispanic girls and 23.7 percent of white girls.
The results reminded us of this incident at Bay Point Middle School in St. Petersburg a couple of years ago. But we couldn't recall a bigger-picture story on the subject.
Teachers and parents, do the results jibe with what you're dealing with? Is it something we should write about more?
