A few more things you might find interesting about Hillsborough's school calendar

In all the fighting over Good Friday, some real big changes to Hillsborough's 2009-10 school calendar got overlooked.

Parents, if you've already made your plans for days off during 2009-10 based on the tentative dates that circulated earlier, you might want to pay close attention.

Biggie No. 1 -- The first day of school is now Tuesday, Aug. 25, and not Monday, Aug. 24. That pushes the end of the second grading period back a day to Jan. 15, 2010 and bumps back the non-student planning day to Jan. 19.

Biggie No. 2 -- Spring break is now April 12-16, 2010, a week later than originally proposed.

Biggie No. 3  -- Thanksgiving break is still set for Nov. 26-27, 2009, but there's talk of giving students off the full week and furloughing teachers during that time.

That last one comes on the good word of some teachers and administrators who have shared that such talks are in the works, if the district needs to cut more spending. In fact, the calendar says all dates are "subject to change," so just keep an eye on it as you think you know what days you need to take off.
