Financial aid, tax workshops coming on Saturday

TAMPA -- It's that time of year again, and U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor stands ready to help.

On Saturday the Tampa Democrat will be offering free workshops in Tampa and St. Petersburg to help students and their parents fill out those complicated federal financial aid forms, as well as tax returns.

The workshops will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Student Services Building of Hillsborough Community College’s Dale Mabry Campus, 4001 W. Tampa Bay Boulevard in Tampa, and at the Enoch Davis Center, 1111 18th Avenue S. in St. Petersburg. More from the press release:

"Tax experts will assist in completing tax returns and will offer eligibility screenings for the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Making Work Pay Credit and American Opportunity Credit. In addition, students and parents are invited to learn how to apply for college financial aid. One-on-one assistance will be provided by financial aid professionals. Students and parents can fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at the workshop. Bring 2010 IRS 1040 tax returns and W-2 statements.
