Education news and notes from Tampa Bay and Florida

Florida Board of Education names three finalists for commissioner search

It's three, not five. But we got them right.

The applicants who will interview for Florida's education commissioner post next week are (in order by schedule):

3 p.m., Charles Hokanson, education consultant

4:15 p.m., Tony Bennett, outgoing Indiana superintendent of public instruction

5:30 p.m., Randy Dunn, former Illinois superintendent of education, currently president of Murray State University

The interviews are set for next week Tuesday at the Tampa Airport Mariott. They're open to the public and should be broadcast on the internet. The board expects to make a selection the following day.
