Florida charter school group leader calls it quits
For some reason, Florida has not one but two charter school associations, each led by well-known and influential movers in school choice circles.
The executive director of the newer Charter School Alliance, brought in from Missouri where she had been serving a similar role, has resigned from that group. The redefinED blog reports that Cheri Shannon will be heading a new charter school venture for low-income students instead.
University Prep already has put in an application to open a school in Pinellas County.
“This is my passion, my mission. … I felt called, for lack of a better word, to come back in and do that work,” Shannon told redefinED. “This is where I want to end my career, making a difference in the lives of kids who deserve a difference.”
What will happen with the Charter School Alliance going forward remains to be seen.
