Florida education commissioner supports voucher expansion

11

February

Florida Education Commissioner Eric J. Smith is giving a thumbs up to legislative plans to dramatically expand Florida's tax credit scholarships (vouchers to many). From a press release:

Florida has worked hard to build an education system that focuses on providing options to parents and giving them flexibility in choosing what’s right for their children. The choices offered to our students have benefited families and communities throughout the state, and the legislation announced yesterday by Representative Weatherford is a direct effort to build on this successful academic approach through a refined Florida Tax Credit Scholarship program. These changes will prove vital in helping low-income students secure learning opportunities that fit their needs, and I encourage all education stakeholders to join me in supporting this measure.
